A bowling club member was charged with drink driving after his car “scuffed” another vehicle in the car park of the premises.
When he appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court last week, pensioner John Hogg claimed he was only moving the car to a more “convenient” parking spot before walking home.
Hogg (70) was fined £280 and banned from driving for 12 months after he admitted driving with excess alcohol in the car park of Castlepark Bowling Club, Prestonpans, on July 13.
He was found to have 52 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 35 microgrammes.
The court heard it was 7.30pm on a Saturday when the accused “scuffed” another vehicle in the car park.
Depute Fiscal Alison Innes said the owner of the vehicle spoke to Hogg and found he was slurring his words. The accused then moved the vehicle again, before walking off.
Hogg was later traced by police officers at his home at 67 North Grange Avenue, Prestonpans, and indicated that he had been driving the car.
Ms Innes said the distance driven by the accused was approximately 10 metres.
