AN East Lothian father is preparing to run 10 kilometres for his three-year-old son, who is more than one in a million.

Young Murray McKenzie from Prestonpans, is, in fact, one in 464 million - due to an extremely rare genetic condition.

Murray was born with a partially deleted chromosome - a genetic condition which is so rare that only six other children in the world have it.

Murray cannot communicate and until recently he could barely sit up straight.

The fact that Mark, his wife Laura (30) and four-week-old daughter Sophie do not have the condition makes Murray’s case even rarer, as a family member tends to have the same condition.

Mark (44), a radio DJ for Forth One and forces radio station Garrison FM, explained that his son was only diagnosed with the condition at the age of two.
