Prestonpans bids to engage with newcomers

Efforts are under way to “rebrand” Prestonpans Community Council to make it more relevant to the town’s growing population.

Members are concerned that as the community expands, interest in the community council appears to shrinking.

After a string of inquorate meetings, Community Councillor DJ Johnston-Smith has been tasked with finding out why – and finding ways of attracting new members.

A relative newcomer to the town himself, he told The News: “There is a strong existing community and then a dormitory community which has sprung up almost unnoticed. We have got to find a way of to get them involved as well.”
