The founder of a Musselburgh-based charity which supports families of children with epilepsy has been thanked personally by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Ann Maxwell, who runs the Muir Maxwell Trust from Eskmills Business Park, is the latest recipient of a Point of Light award, which recognises outstanding individuals who are making a positive change in their community and inspiring others.

Ann set up the trust with her husband after facing challenges when their son Muir was diagnosed with epilepsy at four months old. Ann felt she had no support or anyone to turn to and was determined that others wouldn’t suffer in the same way.

Today the charity provides practical support to improve the quality of life of children and families affected by epilepsy and to raise awareness of the condition.
