The actions of two police officers in East Lothian have been praised after rescuing an elderly woman from a fire in Dunbar on Friday evening.

The two officers attended at a flat on the High Street, Dunbar, at around 10pm, following a smoke alarm activation when a dish was left on the cooker.

They then gained entry to the flat, helped out the elderly female occupant and prevented the fire from spreading.

The fire service arrived a few minutes later and ensured the safety of the property.

The two officers will now be given a meritorious recommendation following their actions.

Inspector Ian Mackay from Police Scotland said: “This fire could well have been fatal had it not been for these two officers who took quick action and forced entry into the property.

“Thanks to their quick response, the elderly lady is now recovering, the fire was prevented from spreading and we will be nominating them for a meritorious award.”
