Plan to reduce the number of councillors in East Lothian is opposed

Concern has been raised that the North Berwick Coastal ward could be split up if plans to cut the number of East Lothian councillors go ahead.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland is proposing to reduce the number councillors from 23 to 21. The proposed reduction in numbers would most likely lead to a complete redrawing of ward boundaries in East Lothian, the council has warned.

At a recent meeting of North Berwick Community Council, Councillor Jim Goodfellow feared North Berwick Coastal could be carved up and areas joined up with other wards.
