East Lothian residents seeking the sun abroad are facing serious problems with passport processing, according to local MP Fiona O’Donnell.

The Labour member has written to the Home Secretary, Theresa May, following a spate of complaints from people concerned at how their applications are being actioned.

Despite having submitted their passport applications in plenty of time, they have faced serious delays and uncertainty about when they will receive their new passport.

In some cases, holidaymakers have also been advised to pay extra to have their passport processed in time.
