A mother turned up to collect a young boy from a primary school and drove away with him – despite being the worse for drink.
Kay Hamilton-Whellans was described as being “unsteady on her feet” before she was spotted jumping into her vehicle with the eight-year-old in the back seat.
The school’s head teacher smelled alcohol on her breath during a brief conversation, but Hamilton-Whellans claimed she had walked to the school.
Hamilton-Whellans (49), Flat 1, King’s Knoll, 24 Clifford Road, North Berwick, appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court last Wednesday.
She admitted to driving with 74mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath on September 4, 2013.
She also admitted to giving false details about the driver of the vehicle on the same date, after she told officers her god-daughter was at the wheel at the time.
