East Lothian Council’s Licensing Board has decided not to declare a general extension of licensing hours during this summer’s football World Cup event.
The World Cup starts on June 12 and runs until July 13. Given the time difference between the UK and Brazil and the fact some matches kick off at 11pm the Licensing Board appreciate that some specific applications for extended hours made be made.
Convener of the Licensing Board, Councillor Jim Goodfellow, said: “The World Cup is a global sporting event which many people enjoy in the company of others in clubs and pubs. The members of the Licensing Board however did not feel it appropriate to grant a general extension of hours to all premises in the East Lothian area. Those premises seeking such an extension will be required to apply.”
Licensed premises seeking an extension during the World Cup tournament are invited to apply for an extended hours licence which costs £10. Each application will be considered separately on their own merits.
