Funding of more than £1.5 million from the Lloyd’s Register Foundation is helping to train volunteer lifeboat crew members in Dunbar.

New recruits Iain MacDougal, Stuart Crichton and Gary Crowe, all from Dunbar, travelled to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution College at Poole in Dorset to complete the trainee crew course.

A key part of the training was sea survival which taught them how to “abandon ship” with a four metre jump into the water, team survival swimming and coping in a life raft in simulated darkness.
