East Lothian Council’s Private Landlord Service has won a national award.
It took the title ‘Best Landlord Services – Local Authorities and Not for Profit Organisations 2013/14’ at the UK Landlord Accreditation Partnership (UKLAP) awards ceremony, held on March 28 in London.
The service was competing with nominations from all over the UK.
The East Lothian Private Landlord Registration Service, which is run by Ewan Ritchie, was nominated for the council’s achievements in a number of areas, including work with private landlords over the last few years; partnership working with Landlord Accreditation Scotland; work with the three Approved Scottish Tenancy Deposit Schemes; and films on Welfare Reform,
Mr Ritchie also chairs the Scottish Landlord Registration Enforcement Sub Group and the council is involved with the current ongoing review of Landlord Registration.
Leader of East Lothian Council and chair of the East Lothian Partnership Councillor Willie Innes said: “Our Private Landlord Registration Service is a really good example of strong partnership working between local and national government and the private, voluntary and statutory sectors.
“Landlord registration ensures that all private landlords and agents in Scotland are ‘fit and proper’ to be letting residential property.
“The Service has played a key role in driving forward landlord registration in East Lothian and also supports landlords by helping them to access a wide range of training and support.
“We provide a first-class service to private landlords, which has also made big improvements for private renters. So, I’d just like to say very well done, Ewan, and I am delighted that the work of the East Lothian Private Landlord Registration Service has attracted the national attention that it deserves.”
