The oldest of Musselburgh’s former fishwives has been given a fitting send-off by members of the Fisherrow fishing community.

A funeral was held at St Andrew’s High Church for Euphemia Fairnie – better known as Phemie – who died on January 16, three days short of her 103rd birthday.

A resident of New Street for well over 50 years, having been born and brought up in Fisherrow, she had recently moved to Archview Lodge Nursing Home in Dalkeith, where she passed away peacefully.
