A man who robbed a Musselburgh newsagent’s shop on Friday night is being sought by police officers in the town.

The incident happened around 8.05pm at Fame Newsagents in North High Street, when a man stole a three-figure sum while struggling with the shop assistant, who was slightly injured.

The thief, who is described as white, Scottish, in his early 20’s and 5ft5-7ins, is of heavy build and has blonde hair brushed forward and lightcoloured stubble. He has a mark or scar above one of his eyebrows, and was wearing light sky blue coloured cotton tracksuit, hooded with white writing and light coloured trainers.

After running out of the shop, he was last seen heading in the direction of the Brunton Theatre.

Detective Inspector Dave Pinkney, who is leading the hunt for the man, said: “This man is believed to be from the local area and I am appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time, or recognises the description, to contact Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“In particular. I am keen to speak to a customer who was in the shop at the time and who witnessed the incident. I have no description, other than he is believed to be East European, and would urge him to come forward.”
