A man who shouted anti-Catholic abuse in a pub packed with Celtic supporters has been banned from attending football matches.

Terry Fletcher was watching the Hoops play a Champions League match against Shaktar Karagandy in the Sportsman Bar, in Musselburgh, on August 28 last year when he was heard shouting “F*ck the Pope” and “F*ck the IRA”.

Fletcher was also heard yelling “Irish pr*cks” and “Irish b*stards”. He was heard to say Celtic should not be allowed to play in Scotland due to their Irish heritage.

A fight then erupted between Fletcher and angry Celtic fan Mark Logan who had taken offence at the sectarian comments.

Fletcher, of 3A Mall Avenue, Musselburgh, admitted shouting, swearing, acting in an aggressive manner and repeatedly uttering sectarian and racially offensive comments when he appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court last week.
