Motorists warned of lights scam in East Lothian

Have your say

Motorists are being warned to be on their guard after a driver was flagged down on a dark, secluded road by what he thought was a police car.

Social media is being used to alert others to the scam amid fears that similar incidents have taken place in the Wallyford/Whitecraig area.

A Facebook post describes how the unnamed man was driving his van on the Elphinstone to Dalkeith road at 8.15pm last Thursday when he pulled over after seeing blue flashing lights.

Moray Johnstone posted what he said was his friend’s account of the incident: “I pulled over thinking they were going to overtake me but they pulled in behind me. The country road is pitch black so you can’t see outside at all.”
