When Michael Williams and his family moved to East Lothian in 1986, he might have expected to settle down for a quieter life.
After 20 years as a major in the Royal Tank Regiment, becoming a farmer on the outskirts of Haddington was a world away from military conflict.
His appointment as deputy to the Lord-Lieutenant, Sir Garth Morrison, changed his remit considerably.
But the Lord-Lieutenant’s death in May this year led to Michael taking an interim role.
He said: “When Sir Garth sadly died, as a deputy, I was appointed the interim Lord-Lieutenant and was very happy and honoured to take that role.”
