East Lothian is a safe place to live and will continue to be so, according to the county’s police chief.

Chief Inspector Colin Brown, the local area commander, gave that assurance when he presented the Local Policing Plan 2014-17 to last week’s meeting of East Lothian Council.

Local police aim to reduce antisocial behaviour, tackle substance misuse, reduce violence, protect people, tackle serious and organised crime, make roads safer and reduce housebreaking.

Mr Brown pointed out that, as a result of local consultation, the force had identified priority issues for each of the council’s seven wards.
