A lecture in memory of former East Lothian Labour MP John P Mackintosh will be given in Edinburgh next week by the Rt Hon Lord Hattersley.
Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 1983 to 1993, Roy Hattersley will ask the question “What are MPs For?” in his address at the University of Edinburgh Playfair Library Hall, South Bridge, on Thursday, October 3 at 5.30pm.
John P Mackintosh represented Berwick and East Lothian from 1966 to 1978, apart from a short break between the General Elections of February and October 1974. He was passionately pro European and a leading academic and political voice for devolution and the establishment of the Scottish Parliament. He died aged 48 in 1978.
