Housing proposals could spark creation of new town by Tranent

Proposals to develop a new town in East Lothian could be submitted to planners this year.

The News understands that Durham-based Hargreaves Services is preparing plans to build 1,600 houses on the former open-cast mine site at Blindwells, between Tranent and Longniddry.

If approved, the scheme could lead to a further 2,900 houses, plus shops, school and other developments.
