A major development around Wallyford will give a huge economic injection to the whole of East Lothian, according to a Scottish sporting hero.

Outline plans for around 1,050 houses, shops, a library, new primary school, nursing home, day centre, offices, business units and storage and distribution premises have been approved by members of East Lothian Council’s planning committee.

The proposals will see the creation of playing fields, open space and allotments, along with road realignments and improvements.

Councillors gave unanimous support to East Lothian Developments’ scheme to build on mainly agricultural land to the south, east and south-west of Wallyford.
