A Gifford man shouted racist comments at an English driver as they pair clashed over parking.

Depute fiscal Brent Bissett told Haddington Sheriff Court that Anthony Brunton was chatting to a neighbour regarding parking when accused Donald Gray (49), of 4 Old Quarry Farm Cottages, pulled up in his van and began shouting racist abuse.

“On hearing the complainer’s voice, who is English, the accused shouted ‘What is it to you, you English b*stard?’ and ‘Why don’t you f**k off back to your own country?’,” said the fiscal.

He added that as Gray went to drive off he shouted “I can’t wait for Independence”.
