Musselburgh Racecourse has turned down a request to fund an illuminated tree as part of the town’s Christmas lights display.
Irene Tait, chairman of Musselburgh and Inveresk Community Council, wrote to manager Bill Farnsworth asking if he would like to sponsor a tree in the “spirit of Christmas and community.”
Responding on behalf of Mr Farnsworth, Elizabeth Allan said: “I would like to thank you for your letter giving Musselburgh Racecourse the opportunity to sponsor a tree. Unfortunately at this time I will have to decline, however it is something that could be considered in the future.”
Mrs Tait said she was disappointed, given how much money the track took in from Musselburgh.
The community council funds the display and is trying to increase the number of illuminated trees along Mall Avenue.
