Under-threat Cockenzie and Port Seton Gala has been granted a short reprieve to allow villagers more time to sign up to help.

The organisers threatened to pull the plug last week after their annual appeal for volunteers fell on deaf ears.

But an ultimatum to parents that the gala would be cancelled unless more helpers came forward has spurred some local residents into action.

A link to our story on the East Lothian News Facebook page warning that the gala’s days could be numbered also sparked a flurry of interest, with more than 3,500 views.

A meeting will now be held in the Thorntree, Cockenzie, at 7pm on Monday, to give families a final chance to show their support.
