East Lothian audiences are invited to join the filmmakers of tomorrow on the red carpet for ‘John Muir - The Schools Film Premiere’ later this month.

As part of Wild Places, the John Muir Film Festival, an education programme for schools brought East Lothian based animation company D Fie Foe to work with 120 P5 pupils from Musselburgh Burgh, Dunbar and Law Primary Schools.

Together they created a short animated film exploring the early life of John Muir, the Dunbar born conservationist, in East Lothian. Learning through film activities supports many experiences and outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence.

Provost Ludovic Broun-Lindsay, Chair of Brunton Theatre Trust, said: “This project has been a great opportunity for local children to engage with and learn more about John Muir and his lasting impact on conservation, East Lothian and the wider world. This project has also given these young people the opportunity to learn new skills in a creative and exciting way, as learning through the medium of film supports many areas of the curriculum for excellence.”

Wild Places is a festival of films celebrating John Muir’s legacy. Presented by The Brunton Theatre Trust, Musselburgh working in partnership with other cinemas along the John Muir Way, the festival reflects Muir’s passion for wild places and the environment and celebrates all of the talents of this extraordinary Scotsman – as a naturalist, writer, artist, explorer and founder of the modern conservation movement. It coincides with the inaugural John Muir Festival which celebrates the life and legacy of the Dunbar-born pioneering conservationist as a new national coast to coast pathway is named in his honour, in the centenary of his death. Wild Places is sponsored by East Lothian Council’s Economic Development and Strategic Investment Events Sponsorship Programme.

The Schools Film Premiere is screened on Thursday 24 April at 10.30am. Tickets, which include refreshments at the film’s after party, are available from the Brunton Box Office on 0131 665 2240 or www.thebrunton.co.uk
