East Lothian has seen 433 new council houses built since 2009 – but demand is expected to rise, due to the predicted national population growth.

While Councillor Stuart Currie (SNP) welcomed the Scottish Government’s £11.3 million investment in council house building in the county, Labour MSP Iain Gray warned of pressures on housing provision and services.

Councillor Currie said: “The SNP Government is on track to deliver 30,000 affordable homes across Scotland by March 2016, with 1,324 council homes built in 2013/14 alone – the highest number since a new generation of council house construction was kick-started in 2009.”
