An East Lothian swimmer’s golden moment at the Commonwealth Games has made waves among supporters of Scottish independence.

Daniel Wallace’s victory in the final of the 400 metres individual medley last Friday sparked much political debate.

The 21-year-old, originally from Gullane, was overjoyed when he claimed Scotland’s third swimming gold at Glasgow’s Tollcross pool.

When he touched the wall to seal victory, the ecstatic Wallace was caught by TV cameras punching the air and shouting “For freedom!”
