Councillors have been accused of “fudging” a licensing policy by opting for a county-wide approach, rather than targetting problem areas.
East Lothian Licensing Board agreed last Thursday to adopt a blanket Statement of Licensing Policy to tackle an ‘over-provision’ of alcohol for the next three years.
It rejected an option to apply stricter licensing rules for areas where alcohol is a problem – such as Prestonpans, Wallyford and Whitecraig.
