A man who smashed seven windows at Dunbar Police Station in a bid to get himself arrested has been jailed for four months.

Lee Stewart made a number of calls to the force communication centre in the early hours of the morning to say he was waiting outside the station, where he had damaged a police car and thrown bricks through windows.

He told the operator he had mental health problems and wanted to go back to jail.

By the time officers arrived at the scene, almost three hours after his first call, the accused had gone home, leaving £4,000 worth of damage.

Stewart, 1a The Shore, Colvin Street, Dunbar, appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court last Wednesday, where sentence had previously been deferred for the preparation of psychiatric and social work reports. He admitted two separate charges of vandalism, resulting in damage to a police vehicle and a number of windows at Dunbar Police Station on April 13.
