Drilling in East Lothian without consent is ‘absurd’, says angry MSP

An East Lothian MSP has slammed UK Government plans to drill under homes without consent as part of fracking exploration.

Colin Beattie (SNP) believes that it is “absurd” for Westminster to remove the right of Scottish homeowners to object to plans to drill under their property.

Sites in East Lothian have been identified as having potential for fracking exploration. Scottish energy minister Fergus Ewing has stated that the Scottish Parliament, through independence, would allow Scotland to take a “cautious and considered” approach to fracking.
