Dougie from North Berwick takes plunge as rookie lifeboatman

A ROOKIE lifeboat crewman from North Berwick has been put through his paces in a training course which has received £1 million in backing from The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust.

Dougie Imrie (21), travelled to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution College at Poole in Dorset to learn a variety of sea survival techniques.

He was taught how to “abandon ship” with a four-metre jump into water, team survival swimming, coping with a life raft in simulated darkness, dealing with fire aboard life rafts, how to right a capsized vessel and the importance of life jackets.
