An East Lothian public building has been shortlisted for a UK design award.

The George Johnstone Centre in Tranent is a finalist in the 2014 Civic Trust Awards, which recognise projects that demonstrate high-quality architecture or design, have demonstrated sustainability, are accessible to all users and have made a positive cultural, social or economic contribution to the local community.

Designed by the council’s property projects team, the centre serves as a central hub for a range of council services, including housing and tenancy advice, council tax and rent payments and general inquiries, as well as a library and meeting, event and activity spaces.
