A Prestonpans man who stole a quantity of metal from an abandoned county hospital has been ordered to carry out unpaid work in the community.
Liam Dale helped himself to the metal from the derelict East Fortune Hospital during an incident on August 5.
Dale (24) was helped in his crime by an accomplice Steven Collins who was given a £500 fine after previously pleading guilty at Haddington Sheriff Court.
Dale, 10 Drummohr Drive, was ordered to return to court following the preparation of criminal reports.
The court was told the value of the metal taken was “of low value” and that all the items had since been returned.
Sheriff Peter Braid said he was considering a custodial sentence due to the “planned nature of the offence” but decided to hand out a community payback disposal instead.
Sheriff Braid ordered Dale to carry out 135 hours of unpaid work.
