County shines with New Year Honours

Local police and fire chiefs, a Citizens Advice Bureau worker and a civil servant have received awards in the New Year Honours.

The county’s police commander Jeanette McDiarmid got the Queen’s Police Medal in recognition of her distinguished service to policing.

While Kevin Blair, who retired from Dunbar Retained Fire Station after 33 years service, latterly as watch manager, received the Queen’s Fire Service Medal.

Dr Philip John Rycroft, Director General, Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, was awarded a Companion of the Order of the Bath, CB, for services to the UK’s devolved and coalition governments.

Derek Meldrum Edmunds, also from Dunbar, a Specialist Volunteer Tribunal and Court Adviser at Haddington Citizens Advice Bureau, received an MBE for services to the community in East Lothian.
