Major improvements to Musselburgh High Street, between Kilwinning and Pinkie Pillars, will get under way next week.

The works will involve the creation of additional parking areas, kerb realignment, carriageway resurfacing, pavement resurfacing, the installation of traffic signals and landscaping.

Councillor Michael Veitch, East Lothian Council’s spokesman for roads, said temporary traffic managements systems and some parking restrictions would be necessary to allow the work to be carried out safely.

“These will all be signed and coned accordingly, but inevitably there will be some disruption during the construction period which the contractor hopes to keep to a minimum,” he added.

Work is due to start on Friday, August 4, with an estimated completion date of November 21. Businesses will be open as usual.
