A Musselburgh SNP councillor has accused East Lothian Council of “recklessness” in its failure to safeguard the town from flooding.
Opposition leader Stuart Currie claims lack of investment by the Labour-led administration confirms its lack of commitment to protect vulnerable homes and businesses along the River Esk.
Councillor Currie is angry that the amount earmarked for coastal protection and flooding in the council’s 2014/15 budget, approved last week, was only £300,000 for the whole of the county.
He told the News: “If we are serious about doing flood prevention in Musselburgh, that would barely be enough to buy a truck to deliver the sandbags.”
