Fears that town centres in East Lothian could descend into chaos if they are left without traffic wardens have been raised.
Under Police Scotland plans, the county – which has seen a reduction from five to two traffic wardens in recent years – could be left without any cover by the end of the year.
East Lothian Council is now looking at taking over responsiblity for “policing” parking restrictions.
But to process the relevant special parking order through parliament, the earliest any new scheme would be in place would be spring 2014.
