Communications chief begins new chapter in his life

David Russell, East Lothian Council’s communications manager, left his post after 31 years under its voluntary early release scheme on Friday.

A former pupil of Ross High School in Tranent, he joined the former East Lothian District Council as a press and information officer in 1983 after graduating from Edinburgh University with a joint honours degree in politics and modern history. The post title was changed to public relations officer a few years later when the council recruited a separate research officer.
