A North Berwick chef has opened his first deli and cafe thanks to funding from the Royal Bank of Scotland.
John Paul McLachlan’s culinary career started when he was just 15, and since then, he has worked at a number of top venues – including Gordon Ramsay’s Amaryllis in Glasgow, Raymond Blanc’s Cookery School and Le Manoir Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire.
He then moved on to Macdonald Hotels for six years, opening his own signature restaurant – John Paul at the Marine – in North Berwick, which he continues to manage today.
After buying produce from Bunney’s Deli in North Berwick nearly six years ago, John Paul told the owner that one day he would buy the deli from him – and true to his word, when Bunney’s became available, he purchased the business and now has plans to add value to the popular deli.
