Top golfer Catriona Matthew’s plan for a new house near North Berwick Golf Club teed off this week when she received the official go-ahead.

Fourteen members of East Lothian Council’s planning committee voted in favour, with Councillor Jim Goodfellow against and Councillor David Berry abstaining at a meeting in the council chambers, Haddington, on Tuesday.

Mrs Matthew, who won the 2009 Women’s British Open, and husband Graeme also got consent to demolish their existing 1960s house Links Lodge to make way for their new contemporary home in Links Road.

Tom Pyemont, of Pyemont Design, acting for the Matthews, said: “I am somewhat pleased that both the planning committee and planning officers supported my application.”
