Boost to economy trumps loss of North Berwick car parking

Plans to create holiday accommodation in North Berwick have been approved, despite councillors’ concerns about a loss of car parking.

East Lothian Council’s Planning Committee approved Stirling Stewart’s application to build two holiday letting units at the rear of the former Harbour House Hotel in Quality Street.

Members voted 13-2 in favour of the scheme, reasoning that the potential economic benefit to the town and county outweighed the loss of parking in the vicinity.
