Two people have been arrested and charged in East Lothian as part of an ongoing housebreaking initiative.

Officers working under Operation RAC conducted enquiries into two separate offences at the St Mary’s RC Church in Poldrate, Haddington, which happened on the September 28 and October 4 this year.

During the first incident a window at the property was broken during an attempted break-in, while the second occasion resulted in the church being entered and a small sum of cash being stolen from within.

A 32-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were subsequently arrested and charged on Friday 27th December in connection with both crimes and will appear in court at a later date.

Chief Inspector Colin Brown said: “These offences may have taken place a few months ago, but officers have continued to investigate the matter thoroughly, resulting in Friday’s arrests.

“As part of Operation RAC local officers throughout East Lothian continue to carry out enforcement activity and bring housebreakers to justice.

“Anyone who sees any suspicious activity in or around a home, outbuilding or commercial property is asked to report the matter to police immediately.”
