The News’ Shop Local, Eat Local, Play Local campaign got off to a flying start last week, attracting positive comments from the business community.

A spokesman for East Lothian Council, which is backing the initiative (see our video at, emailed: “Thanks for the feature in this week’s paper. Looks great!” Lorraine Hunter of Merryhatton Garden Centre at East Fortune said: “We were delighted to be a part of it and really appreciated the opportunity.”

Over the next few weeks and months, the News will be focusing on more of the county’s independent businesses with sights now turning to Homecoming Year 2014 which aims to attract visitors from all over the world to Scotland.
