What a lot of drama at North Berwick school

Budding actors at North Berwick High can enjoy treading the boards in new productions thanks to a big donation of theatre sound and lighting equipment.

New drama teacher David Fitzgerald realised there was a severe lack of gear at the school to support his teaching and pupil shows, and was delighted when his old university, Queen Margaret at Musselburgh, stepped in to help.

His former drama lecturer Scottie Anderson, who was keen to support community projects, came to the rescue with a donation of equipment which was surplus to requirements because it had been upgraded.

David, a QMU university drama graduate and former member of staff, is the school’s first dedicated drama teacher. He said: “We had hardly any equipment when I arrived a few weeks ago. There were some costumes but we were really desperate for specialist drama equipment to help make the pupils’ productions come alive.

“We are over the moon to receive this much needed support from QMU. The children’s eyes really lit up when the equipment arrived this month and I think we are all going to have plenty of fun learning to use the lights and the sounds systems. We were quite overwhelmed by the amount which has been donated by QMU but we certainly intend to put it to good use.”
