Warmth of East Lothian’s winter festivals
Saltire Festival
East Lothian will feature in a packed programme of events to celebrate Scotland’s winter festivals.
The activities will start with the Saltire Festival to mark St Andrew’s Day from November 24 to December 2, then Musselburgh will feature in Hogmanay fun to herald 2013.
The Saltire Festival highlights the village of Athelstaneford as the birthplace of the Scottish flag. This year horse ridings by the East Lothian Pony Club will be re-introduced as part of the ‘Home of the Flag’ activities in the village which will be led by Haddington Pipe Band.
Singer Barbara Dickson will be in concert at St Mary’s Church in Haddington. A competition for local schoolchildren will link in with the Disney/Pixar film ‘Brave’ and singer/songwriter Megan Davidson will appear at the Haddington Farmers’ Market. Local restaurants and bars will provide special menus and musical entertainment as part of Feast ‘n’ Folk and secondary school pupils can take part in Stramash, a new Scottish board game. A Saltire 2012 Raceday will take place at Musselburgh Racecourse.
