Wallyford seeks war memorial

WALLYFORD Community Council wants to create a war memorial in the village.

The people of Wallyford currently have to go to Musselburgh to remember those that lost their lives fighting for their country, as they share the Crookston memorial in Inveresk.

The Scottish Government has created the £1m Centenary Memorials Restoration Fund to help memorials to the fallen from the Great War across Scotland to be cleaned and refurbished before the anniversary in 2014.

Although this was just announced in January, Wallyford Community Council was quick to get involved.

Speaking at a recent meeting, member Alister Hadden revealed that he would like to see the Wallyford part of the stone in the village, but would be happy for it to be restored in its current location.
