Vandals target Haddington schools campus

The new joint school campus in Haddington has been targeted by vandals within weeks of opening.

The head teachers of Haddington Infant School and St Mary’s RC Primary School attended a recent Community And Police Partnership meeting to report the damage. In a report to the monthly meeting of Haddington and District Community Council last week, PC Lynn Black, community beat officer, said groups of youths had been inside the playground on their bikes and a large, grassed hilly area where the turf was new, was completed damaged.

Children’s play equipment had been graffitied and sandstone coping stones were also damaged with tyre marks.

A positive line of enquiry is ongoing to trace the youths. Both head teachers have also approached East Lothian Council about better security at the playground outwith school hours, PC Black reported.
