Tributes to retired vet from West Saltoun killed in road accident

Tributes have been paid to a retired vet who died in hospital last week, almost a fortnight after a cycling accident in the Borders.

John Barr, from West Saltoun, was cycling between Traquair and Innerleithen on September 27 when he was involved in a collision with a Honda Civic car, which stopped at the scene.

The 64-year-old grandfather sustained serious head, leg and pelvic injuries and died at Edinburgh’s Western General Hospital on October 10, despite the best efforts of medical staff.

ANeil Mollison, who worked with Mr Barr for almost 20 years as a partner at the Links Veterinary Practice in Haddington, said many people would be shocked and saddened by his tragic death.
