Tributes flood in as Sula skipper from North Berwick dies
Chris Marr, on Sula at North Berwick Harbour
Tributes were flowing in this week for North Berwick skipper Chris Marr who died after being found with serious head injuries on Sunday morning.
Mr Marr (66) of Melbourne Place, who was the 11th generation of Marrs who fished out of North Berwick, was discovered in the town’s Bank Street around 7.45am and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he passed away.
Police are treating his death as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing in order to establish how he came to suffer his injuries.
Anyone with any information that can assist police should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers, where information can be passed anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
The Marr family were famed for their boat trips round the islands in the Firth of Forth which they were involved in for nearly 40 years until Mr Marr retired from the helm two years ago. This marked the end of an era for thousands of passengers, including bird-watchers, scientists, photographers and day-trippers, who enjoyed voyages aboard the vessel ‘Sula II’ to the world famous Bass Rock and its gannet colony, and Craigleith, known as ‘The Craig.’
