Thumbs up for 198 new homes plan in Dunbar
A plan for 126 new houses and 72 flats at Dunbar has received the thumbs up from East Lothian Council’s planning committee.
Mansell Homes & Hallhill Development Ltd is set to develop farm land to the west of Brodie Avenue as part of a bigger residential project of some 525 houses at Hallhill which already has approval in principle.
Brian Stalker, the council’s development control manager, said the new housing was to be phased.
Councillor Michael Veitch said: “We need new housing in Dunbar. It has to be in the right place and this is the right development in the right place.”
Supporting the plan Councillor Paul McLennan said the development had been “a long time in the making,” providing affordable housing and much needed construction jobs.
Convener Norman Hampshire said: “It is an application that was approved in the Local Plan in 2008. This is 2013 and this is the first stage of that development going to take place and much needed housing in the Dunbar area.”
