This church hall in North Berwick turns bric-a-brac to cash for charity
Liz McCall who organises antique and bric-a-brac fairs in North Berwick for charity.
Each month St Andrew Blackadder Church Hall in North Berwick is a hive of activity as stall holders turn the public’s interest in antiques and second-hand goods into cash for charity.
It has become the venue for popular antique and bric-a-brac fairs which were started two years ago by retired teacher, local resident and keen golfer Liz MacColl.
Since then the events, which are held on the first Saturday of every month between 9.30am and 4pm, have raised around £10,000 for good causes including Fairtrade, North Berwick Pipe Band, Christian Aid, East Lothian Foodbank, Christians Against Poverty, Oxfam, The Smile Train, North Berwick Day Centre’s Christmas festivities, East Lothian Special Needs Playscheme and North Berwick High School’s efforts to provide support to communities in Malawi.
The charities all benefit from cash raised from the entry charge at the door and the cost of hiring out tables to stall holders.
